I’m taking a typography class taught by a very cool teacher who suggested that we visit some art museums and local galleries in the area. So a friend and I went to some spaces in La Jolla last Friday.
Pleasure Point by Nancy Rubins / Untitled by Mauro Staccioli
San Diego Museum of Contemporary Art, La Jolla
Unfortunately, majority of the museum was closed because they were working on a new exhibit. But, we did take a walk through the sculpture garden and checked out the Photography in Mexico exhibit for free!
Going Out of Business by Mel Bochner
The Quint Contemporary Art is just a flew blocks away from the MOCA. The Troublesome Exhibit, which sadly ends tomorrow, featured some cool pieces including two of Matthew Brandt’s works made entirely out of bubble-gum.
Troublesome by Robert Barry / SpectroSonic – Red by Johannes Girardoni
Really enjoyed Girardoni’s piece which incorporates color, light, and sound.
Shadows by Marcos Ramirez Erre
After the gallery, we had a late lunch at IKEA and both ordered a salad, hazelnut chocolate, and swedish meatballs.
I also scored a $5 hamper!
Speaking of art and design, I visited SDSU for Tom Sachs‘ lecture about two weeks ago! Overall, it was a really insightful talk and it was great to know the reasons behind most of his grand projects, especially like that of the “Space Program”. He even wore the Nike Mars Yard shoes he designed!
EdwinHimself put together a post of 5 valuable quotes from that night. Check them out.
Around this time last year, KICKS/HI and Converse collaborated to produce a beautiful Tiger Camo Chuck Taylor All Star. I had the pleasure of seeing these beauts on my feet this summer when I was back home.
At first I didn’t think they were for “me”, but having tried them on, I already knew what the hype was about. Unfortunately, I didn’t purchase them and I sort of regret that decision. But lo and behold, the brands are back at it again this winter with the Tiger Camo II – a pair in the same pattern but in a solid gray and black. You’d be crazy if you didn’t want these in your closet!
Shoes have really been on my mind lately! These will be available on November 10th at both KICKS/HI locations (Honolulu and Guam) and St. Alfred‘s in Chicago. Only 600 pairs will be sold – so grab a pair quick! Who knows, maybe you’ll find yourself singing this Lil Ugly Mane song while wearing them?
1. Aveeno positively radiant moisturizer with SPF 15 – I put this on every morning and it leaves my skin in the perfect condition throughout the day.
2. REN clearcalm 3 night serum – My friend Mariane, who used to work for Teen Vogue, posted this on her instagr.am and I decided to try it out post-finals week because my skin was under a lot of stress. Glad to make this purchase because I can see that it has calmed my skin
3. Vaseline – Literally a staple for everyone. Perfect for taming eyebrows and flyaways and for use as lip balm. Also great to patch up dry skin during the winter.
4. Orabrush tongue cleaner – THIS THING IS AMAZING. I got two in my order, a black one and an orange one, and also decided to buy the foam cleanser and I absolutely love them. Definitely cleans your tongue and it just looks cool!
For Christmas, my cousin gave me $40 so I decided to spend it on some ALDO Killion patent loafers which were on sale for $27. I got some insoles too but I’m planning to exchange them for a smaller size. I like these a lot. I didn’t own any “dressy” shoes prior so these are great.
Stray Rats tee in Mustard! Also received a sticker but upon putting it on my wall, it fell between my wall and bedframe (which is too hard to move), ha!
Probably the best Christmas present ever! Comme des Garcons sa 8100 wallet from my Mama ❤ Definitely beats all the iPads and iPhones and Kindle Fires everyone got.
King Krule’s Self-Titled EP. KK is formerly known as Zoo Kid but that doesn’t mean his style has drastically changed. This ginger makes the best music and he’s only about 17/18 years old. This EP is available on Spotify. Give “The Noose of Jah City” a listen.
MOVIE of the month
A mix of comedy and suspense, this movie ranks up on the top of my list. A group of young British boys try to figure out as to why these fuzzy aliens with glow in the dark teeth are out to attack of one their friends. Karma’s a big B, man!
TV SHOW of the month
I’ve started 3 tv series since Christmas break began which includes Arrested Development. I paused that for a while and also started the American version of Being Human. And I know, “A vampire-werewolf story with a ghost. COOL” BUT I really like it so far, hahaha. I also started The Fades and it’s pretty cool.
VIDEO of the month
Hairy Days by Austin Green. Really enjoyed the simplicity of this short video. Austin Green is a photographer/filmmaker out of Orange County, California. He’s a very talented dude so check out his stuff over here and here!
ICON of the month
Lea Seydoux is a French actress and model who appeared in movies such as Ingluorious Basterds, Midnight in Paris, and Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol (which in my opinion, is a pretty cool movie considering I don’t get too excited over action movies).
She was featured in Oyster Magazine and has modeled for Prada and American Apparel.
A very stylish lady, too! And you can never get enough of gap-toothed models!
Anyways, I hope you all had an amazing 2011! Let’s ring in the new year with lots of positive vibes!
