BOBEZCAPADES #2

Sam Levenson once said,

“For attractive lips, speak words of kindness.

For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people.

For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry.”

And sharing the magic behind bubble tea is exactly what they did at the Chun Shui Tang Teahouse in Taichung, Taiwan, the home of the first ever, original, bubble tea. The video below, which I happened to curiously stumble upon whilst Googling about the birth of boba, unravels the secrets or the essential ingredients for the ultimate boba experience.

Places to try:

  1. Tea n More  Here, I usually get the Rose Milk Green Tea, which is about $3.25, and a lot cheaper than Tea Station’s. Located in Clairemont, San Diego, CA.
  2. Bobalicious — I have not been here enough to experience other flavors, but I really enjoyed their Green Milk Tea. Extra points for their reasonable pricing. Located in Mira Mesa, CA.
  3. Bambu — It was my first time coming here, and I had the Grass Jelly Milk Tea. But, this was actually my second time having Grass Jelly Milk Tea, and the first time was at Tea Lane in Rowland Heights, CA. To this day, I’m still clueless about the chemistry of the drink itself–whether or not it contains a secret grass ingredient, but other than that, THUMBS UP. Bambu is located in San Jose, CA.
  4. Tapioca Express — My pleasant experiences with Tapioca Express are limited, but hope is instilled in me once again, after having their Earl Grey Milk Tea. The place was a hit with a customized menu and happy customers. Located next to Boiling Crab in San Jose, CA

BOBEZCAPADES #1

Image

Quick post before I dive into the sea of stress and sorrows before finals week. Feeling parched and baked like no other after hiking Potato Chip Rock yesterday, I had to have my boba fix. We all hear that milk is the ultimate thirst-quencher. As an avid tea drinker I thought, what better way to quench my thirst than with a Rose Milk Green Tea from Tea Station? Selling at $4.50, it’s no lie that their bobez are pricey, but if you have a serious craving for an ice cold, refreshing drink waiting to be satisfied, a mix of green tea, milk, with a hint of rose is the way to go. Personally, I think it’s the perfect blend and am amused at how bobez came with every sip! I also find Tea Station’s tapioca pearls more flavorful and chewy than many other boba places in the San Diego area.

There aren’t many bobez places to explore around here compared to Los Angeles, but I consider Tea Station as one of the better ones. There are two locations in San Diego, many more around Southern California, and one in Las Vegas. Click here for locations. Lesson learned for next time: Order with less ice.

For the longest time, I’ve been meaning to dedicate a part of The Border to my bubble tea escapades, or as I like to call it, “Bobezcapades.” Here, I’ll be sharing my two cents as a bobez fanatic/enthusiast/madwoman/addict (just kidding) and Jireh bobing it with me (click here for her monthly favourites). I’ll be back in mid-September with BOBEZCAPADES 002 as today marks the first day of my month-long quest of clean eating. Until then, keep on bobin’ on!

FAVOURITES 01

Hi all, it’s Jireh here! So, I decided to try something new for the blog and start a “Monthly Favourites” edition; that way, the blog doesn’t seem to be dead for a really long time. Fall is shortly ending, and with the on and off weather San Diego has been having, I’m pumped for the transition into winter. I’m a little down in the dumps for the remaining days of October, so I thought it’d be a good time to compile some favourite things of mine that I’ve been loving for the past few months! Let’s start with some products…

MAC Taupe in matte. I love brown/nude shades, so this is a great addition to my growing lipstick collection. Also, a tip for putting lipstick on is to apply primer (I use Too Faced Eyeshadow Insurance) before applying color!

H&M basics – brown sweater great to throw on over button downs and a loose pocket tee for casual days. Sorry for the wrinkles!

HEMPZ Original Body Moisturizer – a fragrant lotion that actually soothes skin? Get outta town! This lotion is the holy grail. It is also THC-drug free, paraben and gluten free, AND 100% vegan. Ordered mine through Amazon since my mom told me the shop back home is out of stock for them!

L’Occitane Hand Cream for on the go! Great scent and the consistency is perfect. A bit thicker than HEMPZ, but it does work wonders.

Rimmel Lasting Finish Pro in Hot Cocoa nail lacquer – cute dusty rose color for the fall season.

Li Hing flavoured Sour Watermelon candy! Mom sent these over and these are honestly one of my favourite things to eat when I was back home. Bringing some island flavor to the mainland!

STASH Black Earl Grey Tea – I was never an avid fan of tea, coffee, or soda (very rare to see me drink any of these), but I figured I needed some sort of caffeine in my system so I opted for tea and this is one of the flavours I used to order at Cup & Saucer. Just add 1/2 teaspoon of sugar and some milk and I’m good to go.

ALBUM of the MONTH

Now in the span of 1 month, I could be into so many albums and artists, but the one album that I really enjoyed this month is IIOI’s “Proper”. One can still distinguish Evan’s unique style, yet notice some nice progression. Give it a listen for yourself!

MOVIE of the MONTH

October is all about horror films, but the only movie I look forward to watching during this month is Hocus Pocus. (Image from Tumblr)

TV SHOWS of the MONTH

It’s honestly hard to choose only one favourite tv show for this month! Parks and Recreation came back for another great season. FX’s new show American Horror Story is a bit weird…but weird is good! I enjoy the characters Tate and Violet a lot. And last but not least, season 2 of How to Make It in America premiered a few weeks ago and I couldn’t have been any more excited. I’ve been hooked since the first season aired when I was a senior in high school. Bryan Greenberg has never looked so good! (Images from various Tumblrs)

VIDEO of the MONTH

PERSON of the MONTH

Anyways, I hope you enjoyed this post! xx
